UPDATED! ‘Trinny London’ makeup range by Trinny Woodall

Their story…

Trinny Woodall – ‘For the last 20 years I have worked with women all over the world.  I help them find the most flattering styles, the best skincare, and the most hard-working, perfectly matched, foolproof makeup ❤ As I travelled the globe, I improvised my own personalised makeup kit.  In a quest for the perfect tone and consistency I would mix a stick foundation with a liquid, blend a lip tint with a gloss… I mushed up colours and decanted them into little pots. And then I thought, “there has to be a better way”. The big idea was born: a portable, versatile range of makeup, with colours to suit every woman. ❤ After 3 years of experimenting, planning, developing formulas, and state-of-the-art technology to pinpoint which makeup truly suits you, welcome to the ultimate easy, modern, do-it-everywhere, premium makeup brand: TRINNY LONDON.’

Trinny London are all about portable makeup.  Whilst this is nothing new in the industry, I think the way they have marketed themselves and really pushed for all their products to be portable is refreshing.  They have considered what will give the maximum amount of colour, with the minimal amount of effort and take up only a small amount of space in a standard sized handbag.  I love the idea of this – not only is it better for the environment (as the pots are reusable) but also requires little skill in application, which is just perfect for everyday use.

My personal favourites are the lip glow colour in ‘Maddie‘ and spot concealer ‘Miracle Blur

Editorial Makeup with Frances Moore MUA

I love doing editorial makeup for blogs and magazines.  It’s a total buzz on the day of shooting.  Often starting in the very early hours of the morning (it’s not uncommon to have a 4am start!)  I get such a high knowing I am working with the very best in the industry.  And I have had the most amazing opportunities to work on some gorgeous high profile ad campaigns, TV productions and Films.  And of course, getting to create some utterly stunning makeup designs for some of the most beautiful women around the world.  One of which is Sophie Waldron – one of the most soughtafter model’s in the industry at the moment.  Below is an image by photographer Matt Lee, with myself on wardrobe/lighting assistance and makeup!  Sophie is such a professional and has such an inner strength she’s just incredible.

I often get asked what is the difference between bridal & editorial makeup?  The difference really stems from what sort of conditions we will be shooting in, what look the photographer/ director/producer would like and what elements the model will be going through.  So for example, on our ‘beach babe’ shoot I knew Sophie would be in full sun, possibly in the water and with a good deal of sand!  So I knew she would physically need something with a high coverage and plenty of touch ups.  Bridal makeup is completely different in this aspect – yes I know some clients need a little more coverage due to potential breakouts/excess oil etc but generally speaking bridal makeup is a lot softer and lighter.

What do I like to do most – bridal or editorial makeup?  Bridal has, and will always be, my most favourite thing to do.  There is nothing quite like the morning of a wedding to make you feel good about the human race!  But I like to mix things up occasionally if nothing else but to strengthen my skills as a makeup artist.

REPOST // The big questions – No. 1: Should you hire a makeup artist for your wedding?

Yes, the big question… should you hire a makeup artist for your wedding?  It’s a question every bride puts to themselves – shortly followed by the follow up question… or can I get away with it myself?  Often I think the answer is in the ‘get away with’ part.  Do you really want your wedding makeup to be something you ‘get away with’?  If you’re at that stage of questioning, then here are my top 5 reasons for booking a professional make up artist for your wedding.

1. Your wedding day is not a day for ‘everyday’ makeup.  You’re going to be photographed all day – and not just by a professional wedding photographer.  Remember your friends and family are all equipped with cameras too.  Whether it’s for photographs using natural or flash photography or meeting your guests in sunshine or by candlelight, professionally applied makeup will translate well to all mediums.

2. Do you have a million different bridal looks on Pinterest and still can’t decide what to choose?  A makeup artist can translate these looks, picking out key elements that will compliment your wedding gown, hairstyle, theme and colour scheme.

3. Makeup artists know skin (!) and we can help identify the areas that may become an issue on the big day.  For example, that patch of dry skin or the potential breakout that you don’t know how to deal with?  We can quickly analyse the condition of the skin and give you advice on the steps you could take to avoid future problems.  It’s just one less thing to worry about… and it’s all part of the service.

4. Much as I hate to admit it, weddings can be stressful!  And no one would blame you for feeling a bit nervous on the big day.  Having a makeup artist means there will always be a steady hand to apply that cat flick eyeliner or tackle those false eyelashes.  And we’ll always have a tissue nearby as well in case things get a bit teary!

5. OK, and this is the big one: hiring a makeup artist is not cheap!  But you’ve spent oodles on that gorgeous wedding venue and catering, an eye watering amount on that perfect wedding gown… why skimp on yourself?  It is your wedding after all!  This is your chance to be pampered by the professionals so sit back and enjoy it!

Bridal hair training with Kasia Fortuna – The ‘Hair Queen’

Last week I had the most amazing experience, learning from one of the best hairstylist’s in the country – Kasia Fortuna.  Kasia has worked with some very famous names, including members of the Royal family.  It was such a treat being with her as she’s just such a positive person and really knows her stuff.  What’s more she was happy to share her knowledge – which can be a rare thing in this industry.  Throughout the week Kasia helped to hone my hair skills, and strengthen any weak spots I may have not spotted.  She showed me how to create some really stunning bridesmaid and bridal hairstyles, which I cannot wait to re-create for my clients.

I really had the best time.  Thank you so, so much Kasia! x

Repost // Why everyone is going gaga over Dior…

Since the news broke that makeup artist Daniel Martin was the master-mind behind Meghan’s bridal look – everyone (including myself) have been speculating which products he must have used for the design.  Dior Brand Ambassador & Honest Creative Colour Consultant – Daniel is rumoured to have mainly used Dior’s newest collection of products called ‘Backstage’.  For the lip shade Daniel is said to have used a combination of Dior Addict Lip Glow in 004 Coral and Dior Addict Lip Glow 001 Pink, as he wanted to make sure the lips were super moisturised and just had the most subtlest hint of colour.  This was truly the best option to go for considering how dazzling bright and hot that May day was!

So it stands to reason that everyone is adding Dior to their makeup shopping baskets, and in particular… Dior Addict Lip Glow.  It’s a must have if you want that subtle shade that mimics natural lip tones, along with providing a balm to the lips.  It’s just that perfect, fresh and modern lipstick that every girl should have in their handbag and that is why I actively encourage all my bridal clients to seek out Dior x

My personal faves: Dior Addict Lip Glow 001 Pink, Dior Addict Lip Glow 010 Holo PinkDior Addict Lip Glow in 004 Coral and Dior Addict Lip Glow 007 Raspberry

My makeup style…

I have been a makeup artist for 6 years now – and I have practically seen everything there is to see and be asked everything there is to be asked when it comes to bridal makeup.  It seems obvious but all of my clients will hire me based on example imagery of my work, either via this website or through my social media pages.  They know my style.  They know how I work and why.  Clients know that I will interpret their ideas & thoughts, and translate that into the best design that I think will suit their features and styling.

The flip side of that is when I get a client who knows my style, but wants me to completely veer off into a realm that I don’t think will suit that individual, and is not in-keeping with my personal approach.  I often wonder why they contact me in the first place, as nothing I have in my portfolio reflects their ideal bridal makeup design!

So before contacting me to book in for your wedding day, take a moment to really see my work and read these statements… x

Do book me if…

– You’re ready to take my lead when it comes to makeup design.  Not everyone will suit a smokey eye, even if you love it on Pinterest models.

– You’re happy to embrace your natural features (cute freckles and all!)

– You’re ok wearing more products than usual, and upping your day-to-day look.

– You’re ready to be a bride and wear ‘bridal makeup’…

Don’t book me if…

– You want deeply drawn in eyebrows that do not mimic the natural brow line.

– You want a ‘Kim Kardashian’ facial contour.  Even Kim doesn’t do a full contour anymore!

– You want to look completely different, and try something new on your wedding day.

– You want all your lovely freckles covered… this is my pet hate!
