Bridal makeup love…

Of all the things I get up to as a makeup artist, there is no greater feeling I get than when I design a bespoke makeup look for a bride. It’s a position of trust, and one which I relish and respect.  From the moment I meet a bride to discuss her wedding plans, to that often emotional encounter of when the father of the bride walks in and see’s his beautiful daughter…I love my job! x

Kim’s classic bridal makeup revisited…

Having just received these gorgeous, warm images from Hampshire Wedding Photography DM Photography of Kim’s wedding back in May 2016, I thought it was a good idea to revisit her classic bridal makeup design – as this look is such a favourite with my clients, and one which I always get asked to re-create.  Kim, like many brides, wanted something natural that looked fab when meeting her guests – yet shone through beautifully on camera.  This balance is always tricky.  Especially if you’re not used to wearing a great deal of makeup day-to-day.  You have to take the makeup to a certain ‘sweet spot’ where the makeup is readable on camera, yet not too much for the bride to feel ‘overdone’.  A balance which I pride myself on achieving.  If the client isn’t happy, then I’m not happy.  So I work hard to design something that has every angle covered.

The ‘classic’ bridal makeup design I have in my portfolio is my little secret weapon!  I tend not to tell anyone specifically what I’ve used, nor the amount – that way no one else can re-create your bridal makeup, and it tends to remain more of a bespoke design that way.  Allowing me to tweak and amend the design to each individual person who wants that ‘classic’ look.  Of course, there are many brides who do not want this design and so therefore, I have a bit more creative freedom.  But overall the quality is the same x

Kim’s sunny wedding at Highfield Park Hotel, Hook

I arrived to a very warm and sunny Highfield Park Hotel in Hook this morning to begin working with bride Kim, creating her classic wedding makeup design.  I met Kim way back in October last year to do a bridal makeup trial with her, as she simply couldn’t wait to get stuck in and plan her perfect wedding.

Kim just really wanted something that wouldn’t date and remain ‘timeless’ in her wedding photography – which was to be conducted by DM Photography.  We both decided warm browns, a neat lined eye, rosy cheeks and pink lips were the way to go…so that’s exactly what I did.  Kim already has exceptional skin so I didn’t really need to cover any of that flawless base, instead opting for a light coverage using MAC Face & Body Fluid foundation.  I actually created a bespoke lip colour for Kim using MAC lipstick in LoveLorn with Chanel 54 Boy lipstick – Kim loved it and I think it works to pull everything together x
