MORE hair training with Katy Djokic of The Bridal Stylists

I’ll fully admit I don’t know everything about hairstyling. Products, techniques and styles change. That’s why I totally believe stylists need to constantly be seeking more. More knowledge and experience is so valuable in this industry, plus it’s so much fun and such a buzz connecting with others all striving to learn x

‘Just Peachy’ styled shoot on Bride and Tonic wedding blog…

After being featured on Bride and Tonic in November, I am super excited to be on this truly unique wedding blog again!  This time with a styled shoot focusing on a growing trend for 2019 – peaches.  I was honoured when creator and director of the shoot Tasha, of The Hampshire Wedding Club, contacted me to be involved and provide my makeup skills to the mix.  The images are incredibly sweet and I think really capture the feel of the shoot ideas.

How to get your hair in good condition for your wedding…

Hairstylist Michelle Crosser and myself are constantly asked by our bridal clients how can they improve the condition of their hair, and how can they make it grow… FAST!  The answer is unfortunately patience and a good diet – you know the boring stuff 😉  Here are my top 4 tips to gorgeous wedding hair x

1. Try and introduce more essential fatty acid foods into your diet such as salmon, tuna, walnuts, flaxseed and avocado.  All these help to improve the condition and shine of your hair.

2. Don’t shampoo your hair everyday.  Instead try and do this every other day to allow the natural oils in your hair to return and make the hair less dry and brittle.

3. Make sure to have regular hair trims that are staged at the correct time your hair requires it.  You will need to have your last trim/highlighting/dying completed at least 5 days before your big day.

4. Try using a hair mask like those from Philip Kingsley.

REPOST // How I created DJ Meg Ainsworth’s forest makeup design

When I was approached by Matt Lee, the photographer and brain box behind this forest shoot, he said go wild!!  Which, as a makeup artist, is the most exciting and thrilling words you can ever hear from a fellow creative.  Matt also trusted me and my work which was deeply flattering, yet I still felt the pressure to make his project come alive.  I decided early on to follow nature and keep along the deep browns, ambers and soft yellows found across The New Forest – which was to be the backdrop and inspiration for the shoot.

So here is how I did it!  I started of by creating a deep brown smokey eye using ambers and peach toned eyeshadows to soften any harsh edges.  I slightly extended the shadow out of the corners of the eyes to give that dramatic look and then lined the eyes in a black/brown mix of eyeliner and shadow.  Finishing with a flick of mascara and applying a thick set of eyelashes.  I then applied a bespoke foundation mix I had made especially for Meg and filled in her brows to a natural colour and shape.  Using bronzer as both a contour and blusher I finished Meg’s look with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk x
